Pub ceiling in Edinburgh.  The thistle was adopted as the national symbol of Scotland in the 13th century.  Legend has in that Norsemen who were planning to attack during the night lost their advantage when one of their men cried out in pain after stepping on the spine covered  plant.

Bell's Blair Athol Distillery.   In case you're wondering and so I won't forget, athol is a Scottish word  from the Gaelic phrase for "new Ireland" and is used as a name for both boys and girls.

Glamis Castle in Scotland.  Still a private home to the same family that has lived here for hundreds of years.  The public tour was one of the most extensive and enjoyable castle tours I've been on.

The patio at our hotel in Dundee.  Located on the Firth of Tay, which feeds into the North Sea, the shipbuilding and maritime industries grew in Dundee to support the jute and textile industries.

Kim and I sat outside the hotel for coffee on what the Scottish call a lovely day  We kept our coats on.  These flowers were growing on the patio.  I have no idea what they are, but they certainly do look exotic.

20 Aug

The water park next to our Dundee hotel - an ingenious use of space.  The slides start and end indoors, do their twisting about outdoors.

19 Aug

I've been out of the desert for months and I still am amazed by the greenery.  These were growing outside the St Andrew's clubhouse.

18 Aug

I saw these in several places around St. Andrew's.  I think they might be rose hips on an old fashioned rose bush.

Scottish countryside - taken from the backseat of a moving car.  I wasn't sure if the building would still be in the frame by the time the camera clicked
